Looming changes to Twitter’s API policy are shifting the rules for social media integration and may affect how you leverage Twitter to draw users into conversations about your products and brand.
Among other shifts, Twitter is requiring that all users of its API must follow strict rules for displaying its content. A custom Twitter feed, for instance, may not be able to allow non-standard actions such as posting tweets directly to Facebook or another social venue.
New rules requiring authentication and limiting the rate of calls may also affect your organization’s use of the Twitter API. With the changes kicking in March 2013, you have plenty of time to evaluate any custom Web features or apps to make sure they comply, and rework them if necessary.
