Apr 21, 2015 Mobile’s Now a Must Or Google Will Punish You and Nobody Will Want to Be Your Friend Anymore
Two months ago, Google announced they would alter their algorithm to favor mobile-friendly sites. Trade media were quick to dub this change “Mobilegeddon.” Today is the great day of reckoning, when the change goes into effect.
If your site is not already mobile-friendly, and your business hinges on high rankings, you’re late to the game. But not too late.
Bear in mind when seeking a vendor: this is an area where expertise matters. Optimizing sites for the mobile world is as much art as science. It’s imperative to keep your users’ experience in mind, balancing presenting branding, calls-to-action, key information as you support tapering screen sizes.
Mobile specialists often find creative ways to deal with the challenge of adapting content to different devices and screen widths. One example: a website could convert a sidebar into a popup tab beneath a certain browser size, so that users of smaller devices can still access this content if they want it.
Just being mobile-friendly won’t guarantee your site top shelf-rankings, but mobile’s now become a crucial factor.
